The Engineering Division manages both city improvement projects and residential and commercial developments. Public capital projects are funded by the city and include parks, trails, storm drainage, water systems, and streets.
Residential and commercial developments are reviewed and approved by engineering staff to verify compliance to city standards and impacts to public infrastructure.
The Engineering Department has three areas of responsibility:
Public Development - These are public projects that are funded by the city such as parks, trails, storm drainage, streets, water lines, etc.
Private Development - These are projects that the city reviews and approves the design and construction of, such as commercial, industrial and residential development. The projects are completed by other companies and will be dedicated to the city as public facilities. Again, these improvements include streets, storm drainage facilities, water lines, etc. However, facilities that will not become public are excluded and include private property, such as private streets, private site developments, etc.
Inspections - The inspectors are in the field verifying all city projects and private development construction or improvement projects are completed to meet industry and city standards. Along with the Development Coordinator, the inspectors deal with bonds and warranty issues, developer follow-up and coordination.
